Submitting a Play to Fishamble
Fishamble welcomes online submissions of new, original, dramatic work, and appreciates the imagination, time, and effort that goes into writing a play.
In 2021, Fishamble is changing the way it receives new play submissions. We will no longer accept printed copies by mail or hand delivery and, instead, are opening an online submission system only through the form below.
Our online submission period is open from 2 February - 30 April 2021.

Fishamble's Aims
This is the first year in which Fishamble has moved its script submissions system online. We are hoping, by doing this, to:
Fishamble seeks to tell the story of Ireland, and to engage with a wide range of communities, through discovering, developing and producing plays by Irish writers, and writers living on the island of Ireland. It aims to reflect contemporary Ireland through bringing a diverse range of voices to the stage, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, civil or family status, religion, age, or socio-economic background. Fishamble actively encourages submissions from underrepresented and marginalised voices including, but not limited to, people who identify as: BIPOC, members of the Traveller community, neurodivergent people, LGBTQI+, migrants, and people with disabilities.
- receive works that make us want to produce them;
- discover new voices by making the process easier to use;
- offer some thoughts and guidance as to how best develop your play;
- where appropriate, offer some thoughts as to how you might pursue your writing/project further.

Guidelines for submitting a play
- Please use the online form below to submit your play. If you have difficulty using this form, please email submissions@fishamble.com.
- Fishamble is a new play company, therefore we will only consider plays that have not previously been produced.
- Fishamble is specifically looking for plays written by Irish playwrights, playwrights living on the island of Ireland, and work that has a direct and strong link to Ireland, through themes, plot, and/or characters. Plays that don't meet these criteria are not eligible and so may not receive feedback.
- Scripts should be formatted in a clear way which makes them easy to read.
- Please include contact details on title page of script.
- Please ensure your script has page numbers.
- Please only attach files in PDF or Word format.
- Fishamble accepts plays in Irish and English. Fishamble also welcomes plays that are written substantially in another language where a translation is also provided.
- You may submit up to two plays in this period. Any subsequent plays submitted will not be read.
- PLEASE DO NOT SEND HARD COPY SCRIPTS TO THE FISHAMBLE OFFICE. Any printed scripts received by mail or by hand will not be read, and will not be returned to the sender.
Scripts will be acknowledged, read by our team, and responded to within a 3 – 4 month period.
Your work will be stored on our system for one year after its submission, after which it will be deleted.
We look forward to receiving your work.
