The Fishamble New Writing Award is awarded to a new play presented in the Dublin Fringe Festival
To qualify for this award, an applicant’s work must be a new play showing as part of Dublin Fringe Festival 2024.
The award is designed to recognise excellence in playwriting and engage with an artist at a point in their career where Fishamble can be of benefit to them. The award is typically given to an artist resident on the island of Ireland, or an Irish writer living abroad.
The Fishamble New Writing Award includes targeted dramaturgical support for future writing to help the playwright. Support may include, for instance, a scholarship place on one of Fishamble’s playwriting courses, mentoring schemes and/or support through the New Play Clinic for the playwright’s next play.
Submission deadline, September 2nd 2024.

FAQs
How is the award assessed?
The award is assessed by a panel of readers, reading the works, plus a Fishamble person attending the production. You'll need to set one ticket aside for this.
Does this have to be a 'play' play?
Fishamble appreciates the variety of new works and processes at the Fringe. Make this our problem. If your work is new and there is any kind of script, no matter what form it takes, feel free to submit.
Can a work which is authored by multiple writers be submitted?
Yes.
My work will change during rehearsal, should I still submit?
Fishamble understands that works will develop during rehearsals. Submit your script by the deadline and note this on the script (eg "we intend to devise...."). This is why we also attend the works in person.
I have won the award before. Can I still apply?
No. Our thinking here is the award comes with a flexible range of supports and we feel that a writer who has previously won has benefited from that already.
I have been shortlisted before. Can I still apply?
Yes.
I have been/am supported by Fishamble in another way, eg The New Play Clinic or Big Ambitions. Can I still apply?
Yes. Please note that in terms of fairness for all, if you've been working with Gavin Kostick or another dramaturg from Fishamble, they will sit out decision making when it comes to considering your work.
