Dislocated: A Series of ReadingsFishamble produced a season of three rehearsed readings of contemporary plays from Germany, Ireland and Britain. The plays deal with young lives turned inside-out by dislocation and alienation: in similar territory, but with strikingly different artistic vision to Tadhg Stray Wandered In. Reading 1: Bondi Beach Boy Blue by Benny McDonnell Bondi Beach Boy Blue is a funny, gentle, tragic story of a young Irishman, out of his depth, in Bondi Beach, Australia. The play investigates ideas of success and failure, the desire to be thought well of, and the inescapable ties of home. Reading 2: Fire Face by Marius von Mayenburg Fire Face is a devastating, contemporary analysis of alienated youth. First produced at the Schaubuehne, Berlin Fire Face wsa followed by a discussion, featuring Maja Zade. (Dramaturg/translator) Kindly supported by the Goethe-Institut www.goethe.de/dublin Reading 3: Redundant by Leo Butler Lucy is 17. She dreams of love, security and a bright future. But first she must confront reality – and reality means deciding who to trust. |
